Yes, skirts are in their hot girl era, and the latest iteration? Voluminous, puffed and swishing styles, reminiscent of the misunderstood bubble skirt, that are made for twirling around town.

“High volume skirts, whether it’s longer, maxi lengths or thigh-skimming minis, are surprisingly versatile,” says InStyle Australia market editor Annie Doig. “They were all over the spring/summer runways, and I think we’ll see more of them in the coming months post-Euro summer.” As for how to style them, Doig has a few tips to bear in mind. “Keep the top half more fitted — think a form-fitting sweater or tank to keep the focus on the skirt, and opt for a solid colour. Forget everything you remember about the bubble skirt. The ’80s staple has had a 2024 cool girl rebrand, and it’s proving to be one of the most versatile mini silhouettes.
